02 - Studying Earth's surface - 2 class periods

Our planet is a sphere and is best represented by a globe, a spherical map. Globes aren't very practical for carrying around, especially when you're driving in a car. So, we have many other different kinds of maps. The problem with flat maps is, however, that something will be inaccurate. Different types of map projections are useful in different situations. Sometimes satelites are used to help map the earth, and some maps are computer generated. GPS is a neat technology that uses satelites to tell us exactly where we are on the earth.
