Blue jesters

Leon and I went to a lecture at the library on "Crazy Quilts." Back in the days of crazy quilts, flower meanings were known and important.

I got curious and looked up the Colorado state flower. It's a blue columbine. If you look at the columbine just so, it looks like a court jester's hat, complete with dangling tassles.

This is a 12x18# colored pencil drawing.

There are either hundreds of reference photos, or none. Since it's easier to list none than hundreds, that's what I'm doing. At one point I actually built a construction paper flower for the 3D reference. I don't think it helped much, but it reminded me of being five years old.
